Saw scaled viper? Adder?**

It was killed at the cattle post where my host father stays and they
brought it to show me as I was questioning their fears since I had
never seen one. As you can see, it was BIG AND POISONOUS.

**From Alwyn, the guide Suzie and Michael had in Botswana:
I am absolutely positive that the snake is a Puff Adder. The Puff Adder
is a very common snake in Africa and in sub-saharan Africa found
just about everywhere except rainforests. That color pattern of the
snake is very typical for the southern Puff Adders but the colors seem
to get brighter further up north. That is also why it was probably hard to
identify in a book. Although the Black Mamba is officially the most venomous
snake here, the Puff Adder causes more deaths because of venom that
affects the tissue, and people often die of secondary infection.
