The Maun Reserve

To reach the reserve we crossed the main bridge over the Thamalakane River -- actually it was much more bridge than river. Many Arctic cities mark the end of winter with the break up of ice on a local river. Maun measures seasons with the arrival of the river. As the Okavango Delta fills following the rainy season some of the outflow goes toward Maun and the normally dry Thamalakane eventually flows -- for a while. For us it was the merest of trickles. |
